Gynecologic Oncology

Gynecologic cancers and pre-cancers are growths of abnormal cells that originate from the reproductive area in women. There are several types of gynecologic cancers and pre-cancers which include ovarian, endometrial, uterine sarcoma, cervical, gestational trophoblastic, primary peritoneal, vaginal and vulvar cancers. They are treated by a variety of techniques, including options such as surgery, topical treatments, radiation and even chemotherapy. Each cancer treatment is personalized to the woman with consideration for the individual's situation and needs. In addition, we provide evaluation of pelvic masses and ovarian cysts, ovarian and endometrial cancer screening for high-risk patients, care for HPV (human papillomavirus) infection, cytoreductive ovarian cancer tumor debulking surgery, sentinel lymph node detection and robotic surgery.

Preventing Gynecologic Cancers

All women are at risk for gynecologic cancers. You can lower your risk for a some of these cancers by keeping these things in mind:

  • Regular screenings and self-examinations can result in the detection of certain types of gynecologic cancers in their earlier stages, increasing the likelihood of successful treatment and the possibility for a complete cure.
  • Being aware of your family’s history can help determine if you may have a gene that makes you more susceptible to cancer - knowing can increase the chance of prevention or early diagnosis.
  • A healthy diet and regular exercise can have a significant role in the prevention of cancer and cancer recurrence.
