Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) is home to the region’s largest and most experienced surgical team, most recently receiving accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). The first hospital in the region to be accredited by SRC, TMH is proudly providing the highest quality of care to its patients undergoing robotic surgery.

Status as an accredited organization ensures TMH has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality healthcare set by SRC. Undergoing a series of site inspections, all aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes were collected. This process included physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program.

“Our team is honored for the recognition as Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery at Tallahassee Memorial,” said Brett Howard, MD, general surgeon at TMH, accredited Surgeon of Excellence and Chair of the Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery accreditation. “Over the years we have grown as a leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery, offering a number of specialties. Robotic surgery for different medical conditions means smaller incisions, less trauma, shorter recovery and quicker return to normal activities and enjoying life. We bring together our experience, expertise and robotic technology to deliver the best quality outcomes to patients.”

TMH offers the da Vinci Surgical System. This advanced technology is designed for greater control and access to hard-to-reach areas, allowing extremely complex operations to be performed through just a few small incisions. The da Vinci System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. At TMH, the robot is used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, oncology, cardiothoracic and general surgery.

“It was important for us to undergo the program evaluation,” said Logan Van Wagenen, administrator for surgical services at TMH. “We collaborate daily with our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses and other healthcare providers to take care of our patients. Earning the accreditation is a reflection of the commitment of our team to provide excellent care with the latest techniques, technology and processes, and shows our dedication to ensure the ongoing assessment and improvement of patient care in our region.”
