TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 5, 2022) – Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) is expanding its Cancer Center with the addition of 13 exam rooms and added space for infusion therapy and lab services. The project will allow TMH to care for more patients, expedite cancer treatment and create space for future specialty clinics.
“We’re excited for what this expansion means for those with cancer in our region,” said Kathy Brooks, Oncology Administrator at TMH. “In addition to creating more space, this project allows us to upgrade our technology so we can continue offering our patients cutting-edge care. As always, our focus remains on ensuring patients receive the most comprehensive care from a nationally recognized cancer center right here at home.”
The expansion will allow TMH to meet a growing need for advanced cancer care.
“As our population grows and ages, more people are being diagnosed with cancer,” said Tod Morris, MD, Medical Director of TMH Physician Partners – Cancer & Hematology “We’re growing our Cancer Center to meet this increasing need for comprehensive, high-quality cancer care here in Tallahassee and in anticipation of our community’s future needs.”
Two of TMH’s three existing outpatient oncology clinics will grow during the expansion of the Cancer Center, located at 1775 One Healing Place, just off Surgeons Drive. TMH Physician Partners – Gynecologic Oncology, located on the ground floor, will gain eight exam rooms, while TMH Physician Partners – Cancer & Hematology, located on the second floor, will gain five.
The second floor of the Cancer Center will receive six new infusion chairs and two new lab-draw chairs, funded by generous donor support given through the TMH Foundation.
“This is a wonderful example of how our community continues to support TMH and, most importantly, patients who receive care at the Cancer Center,” said Nigel Allen, President of the TMH Foundation and Chief Advancement Officer. “Our donors are our longstanding partners in bringing care and comfort to patients with cancer and their families.”
The expansion also supports the continued growth of TMH’s Gynecologic Oncology Program. In the fall of 2021, the program welcomed gynecologic oncologists Jay Allard, MD and Christine Fitzsimmons, DO to join Amanda Stephens, DO. Already the longest established program in the region, TMH’s Gynecologic Oncology Program is now also the largest and most experienced, offering patients the expertise of three highly trained physicians instead of one.
Renovations at the Cancer Center began in April and are expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
Accredited since 1951 by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, TMH is home the longest continuously accredited comprehensive community hospital cancer program in the state of Florida. Opened in 2011, TMH’s Cancer Center is a 52,400-square-foot, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified facility known for its highly trained medical team and for delivering the most powerful and comprehensive outpatient treatment options all under one roof.
