CENTER WILL GIVE RESIDENTS EXPANDED ACCESS TO SPECIALIZED CARE CLOSE TO HOME
WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (June 30, 2023) – Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH), a longtime Wakulla County healthcare provider, is significantly expanding services to the community with the construction of a new Urgent Care Center along Crawfordville Highway.
A 2.25-acre site near Publix has been secured, and construction will soon begin on the 12,000-square foot facility with an opening expected in early summer 2024. Half of the space will house the Tallahassee Memorial Urgent Care Center with diagnostic services including labs and X-rays, and the other half will house practice space for primary care, internal medicine and rotating specialists. There is also room to build out an additional 12,000 square feet to meet future needs.
Currently, patients seeking urgent care often travel into Tallahassee, but now they will be able to access care in their own backyard. The center will also help eliminate unnecessary trips to the emergency room for conditions that can be effectively addressed by urgent care.
“Expanded healthcare access in our community is essential to help us attract new industries and jobs for our residents,” John Shuff, President of the Wakulla Economic Development Council said. “Wakulla County is growing, and we are excited to see Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare grow its presence with us, too.”
TMH is a longtime Wakulla County healthcare provider and community partner, having offered primary care for nearly three decades at TMH Physician Partners – Primary Care on Council Moore Road. Last year, the practice added a walk-in clinic to meet patient demand for same-day appointments.
“We have been an established healthcare provider in Wakulla County for many years, and as the community grows, we are honored to grow along with it as a trusted provider of medical care,” said Rob Moss, Executive Director of TMH Physician Partners. “Our new Urgent Care Center will help meet increasing patient demand for immediate health services, as well as provide additional space for more specialized care — all right in the heart of the community.”
The new Urgent Care Center will bridge the gap between primary and emergency care by offering a range of immediate services to address non-life-threatening conditions, minor injuries and illnesses. While the walk-in clinic at TMH Physician Partners – Primary Care has addressed this need over the last year, the new facility will significantly increase capacity, hours of operation and the range of services provided.
Upon opening, the new Urgent Care Center will absorb the staff from the existing walk-in clinic while incorporating additional staff to support expanded healthcare offerings. John Streacker, MD, medical director of TMH’s two existing Urgent Care Centers – at the Main Hospital in Tallahassee and in Southwood – will also oversee the Urgent Care Center in Wakulla.
TMH accepts most health insurance providers – including Capital Health Plan (CHP).
“In Wakulla County, we prioritize the health and well-being of our citizens, and we wholeheartedly thank TMH for their investment in our community,” Wakulla County Commissioner Fred Nichols said. “Together we will build a stronger and healthier Wakulla County.”
