More than 400,000 patients have been treated at Emergency Center - Northeast since its opening in 2013.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Monday, August 21, 2023) — Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) is celebrating 10 years of providing high-quality emergency care to patients at its Emergency Center - Northeast location. Monday, August 21, 2023, marks the 10-year anniversary of the grand opening of TMH’s freestanding emergency center, located on Metropolitan Boulevard near the Thomasville Road and I-10 interchange.

Since opening in 2013, Emergency Center - Northeast has provided the Tallahassee community with expanded access to non-trauma emergency services, reduced wait times and an enhanced experience for both patients and visitors. To date, Emergency Center - Northeast has treated more than 400,000 patients in need of emergency care. This includes more than 88,000 pediatric patients – which has been a focal point for the location since its opening.

“We’re extremely excited about everything we’ve accomplished and proud to have cared for the hundreds of thousands of patients who’ve come through the doors of Emergency Center - Northeast over the past decade,” said Kyrie Thomas, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at TMH. “We’re looking forward to what’s to come and the opportunity to continue providing high-quality care to our community.”

The 45,000-square-foot, 36-bed facility was the first freestanding emergency center to open in the region. It includes an on-site lab, radiology suite and pharmacy – all to expedite care. Many of the amenities were designed to cater to children – who often have unique healthcare needs. Other amenities include an easily navigable floor plan, convenient parking, comfortable exam rooms and separate entrances for children and adults.

Emergency Center - Northeast is staffed by more than 150 clinical staff and colleagues – this includes a team of physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine, as well as nurses who have received special training in providing emergency care for children.

“We have a robust team that is ready to provide the region’s best and most comprehensive emergency care to anyone, at any moment,” said Maureen LeSerra, Director of Emergency Center - Northeast. “Our team prides itself on providing the same high level of care patients and their loved ones can expect when visiting any TMH facility.”

If patients require additional in-patient care, Emergency Center - Northeast is just a 10-minute drive from Tallahassee Memorial’s Main Hospital. Patients can be easily and safely transported between TMH facilities using Tallahassee Memorial’s EMS Service. More than 38,000 patients have been transported to the Main Hospital from Emergency Center - Northeast since 2013.

The facility was not only designed to care for patients, but also for the environment, becoming the first freestanding emergency center in Florida to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards for green design and construction when it was built in 2013.
