Change Healthcare (CHC) is notifying Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) patients of a data breach incident involving Change Healthcare (CHC), a trusted vendor, that may have impacted the personal information of fewer than 500 TMH patients.

On February 21, 2024, CHC discovered ransomware had been deployed in its computer systems. Upon discovery, CHC acted swiftly to stop the unauthorized activity, disconnect affected systems, and prevent further impact. They initiated an investigation with assistance from leading cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement.

This incident occurred on Change Healthcare’s systems and did not affect TMH servers, systems, or operations. However, CHC has determined that certain information for affected individuals may have been accessed. The information potentially involved varies by individual and could include contact information (such as name, address, date of birth, phone number, and email), health insurance details (such as policy numbers, insurance companies, or payor IDs), health information (including medical record numbers, providers, diagnoses, treatments, and test results), billing or payment data (such as account numbers, billing codes, or financial details), and other personal information, such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or passport numbers. Not all information was impacted for every individual, and CHC has not found evidence of full medical histories in the reviewed data. In some cases, the impacted data may relate to guarantors, individuals responsible for paying bills for health care services.

Change Healthcare has reinforced its security policies, implemented additional safeguards, and continued to work with cybersecurity experts to monitor the situation, including tracking for misuse of information on the internet and dark web. To support those potentially affected, CHC has begun notifying individuals with verified mailing addresses and providing resources to assist them in protecting their information.

CHC has established a dedicated call center with trained clinicians to provide additional support and resources to those impacted. Individuals who believe they may have been affected can visit changecybersupport.com for detailed information or call the toll-free support line at 1-866-262-5342, available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT.
