About Me
Dr. Ramirez is a graduate of Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. After graduation, he entered into active duty in the U.S. Navy and began his General Surgery residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Upon completion of General Surgery residency, he went on to complete his Cardiothoracic Surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center and an advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
He retired from active duty after 24 years in July 2021 after having served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and Consultant Specialty Leader of Cardiothoracic Surgery to the U.S. Navy Surgeon General.
Dr. Ramirez is board certified in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. He specializes in coronary artery bypass, valvular repair/replacement, structural heart therapies, arrhythmia surgery and complex mitral valve repair. He serves as the Medical Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery at TMH.
In his free time, Dr. Ramirez enjoys golf, traveling with his family and is a devoted sports aficionado.
