About Me
Get to Know the Doctor
What inspired you to become a physician?
I felt the best way to make a difference in people’s lives is to become a physician. To be a “healer” and not just cure diseases by giving time, attention and knowledge to the patient and family members motivated me to choose Family Medicine (encompasses taking care of patients from all age groups) as a specialty. Ability to apply science and humanism at the same time is available to only a few professions in the world and medical profession is the foremost in that area.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Listening to music, singing, going to gym, running, walking, martial arts all inspire me. I am planning to take up more hobbies including riding bike, swimming, and golf in the near future.
How do your patients describe you?
Most of my patients describe me as a caring, good listener, trustworthy, honest and straight talking. Some patients or families believe being bluntly honest and straight talking is not always appropriate and may not appreciate that approach. But overwhelming majority of my patients like the straight and honest approach which helps them make an informed decision in their personal care or care of a family member.
In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship?
Trust is the most important factor. A patient’s status should not affect the ability of their doctor to give an honest opinion about their medical condition and prospects for cure or healing of their medical problems. Some “very important person” (VIP) patients believe that they could get the most out of their doctor by emphasizing how important they are and trying to belittle their physician. This may not work in their best interests. Similarly I abhor the paternalistic approach by a physician to his patients.
What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
As mentioned previously, ability to be a “healer” is a total stranger’s life by applying science and humanism is only available to medical professionals and I find that very rewarding experience in my career.
What’s your proudest moment as a doctor?
I had the opportunity to save many critical patients’ life and also improve quality of life of many of my patients. When a grateful patient or family member acknowledges my work, those moments are my proudest moments and I hope and pray those moments keep coming!
Is there anything more or extra you would like prospective patients to know about you?
No
