IMG Applications for the Family Medicine Residency Program

Some of our residents come from non-US schools. We are committed to attracting the best and brightest, no matter where they are trained. We do accept foreign medical graduates under J-1 status through the ECFMG. 

These are the requirements for IMG applicants:

• Knowledge of and commitment to the discipline of family medicine
• Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic
• Excellent facility with the English language-- written, spoken, and idiomatic
• Excellent medical school performance
• Excellent recommendations from medical school evaluators
• Valid ECFMG certificate, or high likelihood of certification by Feb. 1
• Prior clinical experience in US or very similar health system
• Citizenship, permanent residency status, or visa status that will allow you to work in the US without delay

These are strongly recommended:

• Passing of USMLE Steps 1 & 2 CK and CS within two attempts
• Graduation from medical school within the past four years
• Employment (not just observerships) for six months in a clinically-relevant position in the US or very similar system
• Three strong letters of recommendation from physicians currently active in the US in the practice of medicine, or the teaching of clinical medicine
