Nurse Residency Program
We know the step out of the classroom and up to the bedside is a big one. That’s why we offer new nurses additional support through our Nurse Residency Program, the only accredited nurse residency program in the region.
The Nurse Residency Program at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) bridges the gap between classroom learning and direct patient care. Our program is a year-long series of guided learning experiences and group bonding designed to support new nurses as they transition into professional nursing practice.
Located in Florida’s capital city, our program is designed in conjunction with the University Health System Consortium and supplements our traditional hospital and unit orientations. Throughout the program, we will help new nurses develop leadership skills, analyze evidence through literature review and grow into their profession.
Accepted new nurse graduates will begin employment at TMH and be enrolled in our Nurse Residency Program.

Do Nurse Residents choose their unit or are they assigned?
RN residents will provide their top three nursing areas. The RN Residency Team will setup panel interviews and work to place the RN residents in one of the top three preferred nursing areas.
What staff support do Nurse Residents receive?
The program coordinator of the Nurse Residency Program, unit educators, facilitators and the nurse residents’ preceptor for each clinical area have advanced nursing education and experience transitioning new nurses from students to professionals in the clinical specialty areas they support.
The managers participate in the interviewing and selection process for all residents in their assigned clinical unit. In addition, the managers are responsible for scheduling, facilitating the individualized preceptor experience, continuously revising the unit-specific orientation pathways, and evaluating the progress of each assigned nurse resident.
The managers have the overall responsibility to ensure that the Nurse Residency Program provides the socialization, clinical and educational experiences for the professional growth and development of new graduate nurses at TMH.
