Ankle Replacement Surgery
Total ankle replacement surgery – also known as ankle arthroplasty – is a procedure to remove portions of the ankle joint and replace it with artificial parts to restore function and reduce joint pain.
How do I know if I need Total Ankle Replacement Surgery?
Whether or not you need total ankle replacement surgery will ultimately be determined through appointments and consultations with your primary care physician and your orthopedic surgeon. But, you may be a candidate for total ankle replacement surgery if you experience:
- Chronic severe shoulder pain in your ankle that makes it difficult to walk or stand up
- Persistent but moderate pain or swelling in your ankle, even while at rest.
- Loss of motion in your ankle.
Why Choose TMH for Total Ankle Replacement Surgery?
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare is home to the region’s most comprehensive and advanced orthopedic program, without outstanding designations and comprehensive care plans for total joint surgery patients. Your orthopedic nurse navigator will prepare you for what to expect from pre-operative testing and surgery to post-operative care and recovery.
Many of our total joint replacement surgeries are performed as outpatient surgery. Following your surgery, our goal is for you to leave TMH as soon as you’re ready and reclaim your quality of life in the comfort of your own home. In some cases, you can have ankle replacement surgery as an outpatient surgery and go home the same day – and in most cases, patients are discharged by 11 am the morning following their surgery.
