Shoulder Replacement Surgery
Total shoulder replacement surgery — also known as total shoulder arthroplasty — is a procedure to remove severely damaged or diseased parts of your shoulder joint and replace it with artificial parts to restore function and reduce joint pain.
How do I know if I need Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery?
Whether or not you need total shoulder replacement surgery will ultimately be determined through appointments and consultations with your primary care physician and your orthopedic surgeon. But, you may be a candidate for total hip replacement surgery if you experience:
- Chronic severe shoulder pain that limits routine use of your shoulder such as reaching for something or getting dressed
- Persistent but moderate pain in your shoulder, even while at rest.
- Loss of motion in your shoulder.
Why Choose TMH for Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery?
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare is home to the region’s most comprehensive and advanced orthopedic program, without outstanding designations and comprehensive care plans for total joint surgery patients. Your orthopedic nurse navigator will prepare you for what to expect from pre-operative testing and surgery to post-operative care and recovery.
Many of our total joint replacement surgeries are performed as outpatient surgery. Following your surgery, our goal is for you to leave TMH as soon as you’re ready and reclaim your quality of life in the comfort of your own home. In some cases, you can have shoulder replacement surgery as an outpatient surgery and go home the same day – and in most cases, patients are discharged by 11 am the morning following their surgery.
