Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

At the Tallahassee Memorial Wound Healing Center, we offer an innovative treatment called hyperbaric oxygen therapy for treating wounds and late effects of radiation from life-saving cancer treatment.

With a care plan created just for you, we help heal your wounds and, in many cases, may even save your limb – all with the goal of getting you back to living your life.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT, is an innovative treatment used to speed up healing of stubborn wounds and damaged tissues starved for oxygen.

The evidence-based treatment uses pressurized chambers with 100 percent oxygen – that’s twice the typical atmospheric pressure – to fight bacteria, stimulate healthy cells, form new blood vessels and enhance the healing process.

Wound care physician at TMH, Dr. Joseph Mazziotta, explains exactly how HBOT works below.

Who can benefit?

Patients with the following conditions may benefit from HBOT:

  • Diabetic foot and leg ulcers
  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
  • Late effects of radiation (i.e., from cancer treatment)
  • Soft tissue radionecrosis, osteoradionecrosis, radiation cystitis
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Sudden sensorineural hearing loss

How do I schedule an appointment?

If you think HBOT may be a fit for you, ask your primary care physician for a referral to the Tallahassee Memorial Wound Healing Center. In many cases, patients can also self-refer. Call us at 850-431-4325 to learn more.
