Neurovascular Surgery
Treating the brain doesn’t always mean opening the skull. Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare houses the region’s most comprehensive neurovascular lab program, boasting two identical labs for diagnosis and treatment of complex vascular disease, strokes and other disorders.
What is Neurovascular Surgery?
Neurovascular surgery is brain surgery performed using a catheter that travels into the brains vessels from other arteries in the arms or legs. Our state-of-the-art neurovascular lab allows us to perform surgery on arteries in your brain without opening your skull.
What We Treat
Our neurovascular surgery team treats patients with diseases, trauma or emergent events that cause damage to vessels in the brain, including:
- Stroke
- Aneurysms
- Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
- Vessel disease
- Flow diversion
Who Needs Neurovascular Surgery
Neurovascular surgery is used to treat two types of patients:
- Those who have a neurological condition found during an exam needing treatment to prevent future complications.
- Those who are critically ill and may have experienced an emergency such as a stroke or ruptured aneurysm.
Why Choose TMH
Beginning in 2012, and with an expansion in 2019, we are proud to be the first facility in Tallahassee and the surrounding areas to offer these revolutionary neurovascular treatments, so patients can recover close to home.
If you need neurovascular surgery, TMH is the only facility in the region with three specially trained neurosurgeons and interventional neurologists prepared to treat you. Our neurovascular lab is located next to our operating rooms, allowing for seamless continuity of care.
